The Belgian cable operator Telenet has said it now reaches 500,000 digital homes. The interactive digital TV service, or iDTV, was launched on September 3, 2005. According to the operator, the success is due to the low rental fee of the digiboxes, the free offer of Flexview and the extensive variety of available VOD.
Jo Van Gorp, VP residential market at Telenet, said in a prepared statement: “Firstly, Telenet has significantly lowered the customers’ entry threshold by making the rental fee for the digiboxes as low as possible. Telenet customers pay €4 for the rental of a regular digibox or €6 for an HD digibox. The success of digibox rentals lies in the option to update the equipment; an option which does not exist for purchased equipment.”
He also cited the success of VOD, as reported before in Broadband TV News.
