Macrovision has extended its multi-year agreement for the inclusion of its Interactive Program Guide (IPG) technology in Sony’s European product range.
The IPG will now be integrated with PlayTV, a combined TV tuner and personal video recorder for use with Playstation 3, due to be released later this year.
“Macrovision is pleased to extend its relationship with Sony in Europe to cover PlayTV,” said Samir Armaly, senior vice president, patent licensing, Macrovision. “This agreement demonstrates the strength and importance of Macrovision’s IPG patent portfolio on new platforms.”
The IPG technology was one of a number of assets acquired by Macrovision as part of its purchase of Gemstar-TV Guide International.
After some delay the UK launch of PlayTV is now slated for September 10 with the rest of Europe following before the turn of the year.
