IBC 2008 Hall 1. Stand D81
A live demonstration on the DVB stand will give the industry at large their first view of new DVB-T2 standard. The release of the new terrestrial transmission standard follows the successful deployment of its satellite stablemate DVB-S2.
The demo will show MPEG-4 encoded HDTV content delivered over an end-to-end terrestrial transmission system using DVB-T2 technology.
The terrestrial technology builds on the foundations of the successful DVB-T standard and takes advantage of the latest technological developments to reach theoretical performance limits. DVB-T2 is cable of providing an additional increase in data capacity of between 30% and 50% without the need to invest in more powerful transmitters.
It is at the centre of Ofcom’s plans to launch an HD multiplex in the UK next year and tests are already underway in the Guildford area.
