Take-up of UPC’s digital cable services in Central and Eastern Europe is gathering momentum.
Results published today by Liberty Global show that those in Hungary and Poland, both launched in the second quarter, had already secured 48,100 and 11,300 subscribers respectively at the end of June.
The Czech Republic has meanwhile become the company’s leading digital cable market, posting 186,400 subscribers at the end of Q2.
On the down side, and in the face of growing competition, UPC Direct lost 3,000 subscribers in the Czech Republic and gained only 500 and 100 in Hungary and Slovakia respectively.
UPC lost significantly more analogue than it gained digital cable subscribers in Q2 (36,300 v 4,000), though its DTH platform Focus Sat secured an additional 5,300 customers.
