Spain’s public broadcaster TVE is to launch two new channels, including a permanent HD network, following the completion of the country’s digital switchover programme in 2010.
Canal Cultura will cover culture and there will be a regular placement for Canal HD, currently preparing to take the place of Canal+ HD on Digital+ and Imagenio for the duration of the Olympic games.
The full line-up will be La 1, La 2, Canal 24 Horas, Clan TVE, Teledeporte, Canal Cultura, TVE HD and TVE Internacional. In the process Docu TVE and Canal Clásico will close and their content shared between Canal Cultura and TVE HD.
The proposal has been agreed between the TVE board of directors and the government as part of a set of aims that will run between 2008 and 2010.
