NDS has reported a rare decrease in profits in the fourth quarter, although revenues still increased.
The News Corp technology developer said its net income decreased to $37.14 million from $41.12m in the previous year. At the same time quarterly revenues to the period ending June 30, 2008 climbed to $217.02 million from $197.97, ahead of analyst expectations.
The growth came from the NDS new technologies division that increased revenues by a third to $63.96 million. The fiscal year ending June 30, 2008 also produced an increase of 40% coming from personal video recorder technologies, advanced middleware, gaming and residential gateways.
Conditional access revenues declined slightly to $98.91m. Although price reductions have been put in place on existing contracts, the combination of high volumes shipped, and new contracts awarded pushed up annual revenues by 17%. New deployments also benefitted revenues from EPGs and middleware.
