The French website Internet Cdiscount is to offer a VOD service with brand new French movies at no charge to viewers, according to the magazine Le Point. “Some will even be shown before Canal+.”
The website, which specialises in online sales of CDs and DVDs, will offer the movies free of charge, though viewers will have to watch a pre-roll commercial before viewing the movie. Internet Cdiscount is aiming for 400,000 requests per week and claims it has a sound business model. At the moment, the website attracts 4.8 million unique visitors a month.
The plan is to offer a new movie every week and apparently contracts have been signed with a number of studios.
