Erik Huggers has been appointed as the new director of BBC Future Media & Technology. The former Microsoft executive who is currently group controller of the division had been widely tipped to take on the role following the appointment of Ashley Highfield as CEO of Kangaroo.
Huggers will take up his new role on August 1 and will also join the BBC Executive Board. His responsibilities will include the BBC’s output on the internet, interactive TV, mobile, broadband (including the BBC iPlayer) and other emerging platforms. The brief also extends to the BBC’s enterprise and broadcast technology strategy and delivery.
Huggers was born and educated in the Netherlands and is married with two children.
