Airplus TV has asked for a new committee to be appointed to reassess the bids to operate a package of pay-TV channels on Portugal’s DTT system.
The committee’s preliminary report awarded the licence to Portugal Telecom, which was also the sole bidder for the free-to-air multiplex, but Airplus president Luís Nazaré told the local press the committee had made a series of technical errors. “It is absolutely necessary to carry out an independent review,” he said.
According to Airplus, the Scandinavian-backed venture received four out of seven in the marking process, coming highest in the most important criteria, however Nazaré said the company did not become aware of the assessment process until after it had taken place.
The main objection from Airplus is the assessment method used by the committee, which Nazaré believes to be inadequate. The possibility of seeking a full judicial review has not been ruled out.
