Eutelsat has confirmed that the four transponders switched off on Eutelsat W5 at 70 degrees East will remain inactive. It follows a technical investigation by Eutelsat and manufacturer Thales Alenia Space into the incident involving part of the power generator substation in the night of June 16 to 17.
Although the power performance has now stabilised the investigation concluded that it would not be possible to recover operational use of the affected transponders. This leaves the number of active transponders on the satellite at 20.
Eutelsat W5 provides connectivity from Asia into Western Europe. Broadcast clients include VOA and TVB, though services also include occasional use video and internet backbone connections.
