The German monopoly commission Bundeskartellamt is of the opinion that not all Bundesliga football games should only be available on pay-TV, according to local newspaper reports. At least a number of games should be available on free-to-air television.
The commission will give the go-ahead to the joint marketing of the football rights by the Deutsche Fußball Liga (DFL) and Leo Kirch. As this will constitute a monopoly, consumers should also have some benefits, said a spokesperson. The bidding war for the rights can start when the commission officially announces its verdict.
