The Scaent Group has taken a 10% stake in Ocean Blue Software, the Bristol-based company that has developed digital TV software solutions for companies including Toshiba, Sharp and Philips. The terms of the transaction have not been released.
Ocean is currently working on a new pay-per-view software standard developed by a consortium of Sony, Philips, Samsung & SmarDTV and Panasonic.
Ocean Blue is an early investment for Scaent’s technology portfolio; it has built up a business investing in electricity companies in Russia, Lithuania and the Baltics. Its diverse portfolio also includes the 133-year-old Glenglassaugh Whisky Distillery in Scotland.
Scaent was formed in Sweden in 2003, though the company’s head office is now in Amsterdam.
