The government of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) is planning to privatise the country’s public broadcaster Makedonska Radiodifuzija (MRD) at the beginning of next year.
MRD general director Saso Stancevski explained that it was impossible to avoid privatization because the EC is asking for it. According to local reports, satellite TV services provider TARBS is interested in buying a large part of MRD.
Meanwhile, the country’s Broadcasting Council has issued 10 broadcasting permits to local TV stations in Kratovo, Struga, Kocani, Berovo, Kavadarci, Kriva Palanka, Prilep, Gostivar and Dolneni.
The Council has also decided to announce a new tender for six broadcasting permits for TV and radio stations on a local level for Kratovo, Makedonska Kamenica, Debar, Resen and Kocane.
