Following the protest by French commercial broadcasters against the proposed tax to finance the public broadcasting system, the association of telecom operators has filed a similar protest with Jean-François Copé, who heads the presidential committee that came up with the proposals. The idea is to tax 0.5% of the turnover of mobile operators and internet access providers.
“This is a very dangerous tax on a sector, which is one of the motors of the French economy,” according to a letter by the operators to Copé. The new taxes are proposed to compensate for the removal of (some of the) advertising on French public networks.
