MTV Networks and Endemol Nederland will launch a new Dutch comedy channel on September 1. Called Comedy Central Family, the joint venture will broadcast both Dutch comedy productions from the vaults of Endemol, as well as US series.
Dutch series will include Ushi & Van Dijk, Booby Trap, De Vlaamsche Pot, Vrienden voor het Leven and Toen Was Geluk Heel Gewoon with US fare including Saturday Night Live, Frasier and That 70’s Show. Ziggo will be the first cable operator to carry the channel, and additional distribution deals are expected.
An earlier scheme to launch an Endemol comedy channel with KPN’s Planet division faltered after the Dutch incumbent decided to stop participating in content production deals and keep to its core business of distribution.
