The Belgian cable operator Telenet has said it will uphold its offer of €350 million for the TV activities of the Interkabel networks. The company sees no need to revise its bid following news that Belgacom has issued a non-binding offer of €420 million for Interkabel.
In a statement, Telenet said that Belgacom does not stand a chance of receiving approval from the competition authorities, adding that “it is only a perverse delaying tactic”. According to the company, competition between cable and ADSL technologies is the best guarantee for consumers.
Telenet has also said it will soon start proceedings with the competition authority Raad voor Mededinging in order to stop the “contra competitive moves from Belgacom.”
