RTL Deutschland has said that from November 2008 all of its programmes will be shown in 16:9 widescreen format. At the moment, the broadcaster only transmits selected programming in the format.
The move includes all channels from the group – RTL Television, Vox, RTL II, n-tv and Super RTL – as well as the digital channels RTL Crime, Passion and RTL Living. With the move, RTL claims to be the first private broadcaster to have so many programmes in widescreen. The broadcaster has so far not announced any plans to start transmitting in HD.
