The Belgian incumbent Belgacom has put in a bid to take over the four cable networks belonging to the Interkabel consortium after the company failed in its action to thwart the their sale to Telenet. The four companies, Interelectra, Integan, WVEM and PBE, together have some 800,000 connected households.
Last year Telenet reached an agreement with the municipalities that own the networks to acquire the TV business of the nets for an amount believed to be around €350 million. Belgacom filed complaints in order to stop the sale. The incumbent claimed an open procedure should have been followed as the cable networks are publicly owned.
Earlier this week, the two courts dismissed Belgacom’s complaints, so the road to a sale to Telenet now seems open. Now Belgacom has put in a bid for an undisclosed sum with the owners of the networks.
