TELENOR BROADCAST PRESS DAY – OSLO. Telenor has given details of its planned sports channel for the Danish market. Christian Albech, CEO, Telenor Broadcast Holding said talks with prospective partners were in their final stages and an announcement would be made in the next few weeks.“We are positioned to produce a sports channel, maybe on our own, maybe with others,” said Albech. “We need to be more aggressive to serve the sports business.” The channel is likely to launch during the fourth quarter.
Telenor has been steadily building its Danish sports portfolio against the background of the Viasat-TV2 channel TV2 Sport that has secured some 85% of available rights.
Last Christmas Telenor secured the second package for the SAS-Ligaen, the top flight Danish football competition, with the matches scheduled to begin at the start of the 2009-10 season. It has also agreed a rights share with public broadcaster Danmarks Radio to broadcast rights acquired from the EBU. These include the Beijing Olympics and the Tour de France.
