Orange has abandoned plans to enter the Romanian DTH market.
Speaking to the local press, Orange Romania’s new strategy director Julien Ducarroz said that it had come to the conclusion that the market is effectively closed to new entrants.
It had also ruled out the possibility of buying one of the country’s five existing DTH platforms, which is dominated by Digi TV and Dolce, claiming around 1 million and 500,000 subscribers respectively.
None of the three remaining platforms – Focus Sat, Max TV and Boom TV – is believed to have more than 200,000 subscribers.
Yet significantly, Ducarroz added that Orange still plans to offer TV services in Romania at some time in the future.
