The Austrian public broadcaster ORF has started broadcasts of the HD version of its main channel ORF 1, with the simulcast available on cable, IPTV and satellite. In The Netherlands, Nederland1 HD has also started transmitting over cable and DTH.
In Austria, the channel is available to all DTH homes holding an ORF smart card. as well as those viewers that have a subscription to Premiere Austria. All cards have automatically been updated for reception of ORF 1 HD at no additional cost.
In The Netherlands, Nederland 1 HD is available on the main cable networks, including UPC, Ziggo, Delta and CAIW, as well as on the Canal Digitaal DTH platform on Astra 23.5 degrees East.
The launch of ORF 1 HD and Nederland 1 HD are part of many such across Europe, with broadcasters readying themselves for HD coverage of major sports events this summer.
