ANGA CABLE – Cologne. Nortel Solutions has announced upgrade projects with two leading German cablenets.
Unitymedia has used Nortel technology to create greater bandwidth for communications and entertainment services. Although the improved broadband speeds of 32 Mbps is slower than the 100 Mbps speeds promised by DOCSIS 3 it is still two times faster than previously available.
The technology used in the Unitymedia network is based on Nortel Communication Server 2000 IP Multimedia softswitch. The upgrade takes the network to 10 Gbps through a resilient optical ring and uses Optical Multiservice Edge (OME) 6500 terminals.
Unitymedia serves 4.7 million customers in North Rhine-Westphalia and Hesse.
Meanwhile in Baden-Wurttemberg, Kabel BW is using a Nortel carrier VoIP deployment to develop its unified communications offer. Again, it’s the Communication Server 2000 IP Multimedia softswitch that will allow speeds of 32 Mbps to be enjoyed by customers on the German cablenet. Small and medium businesses will be offered video conferencing and PBX functionality.
