HD Dreams

May 25, 2008 13.28 Europe/London By Donald Koeleman

Dream Multimedia, hall 10.2, stand H40

First announced at the 2006 ANGA show, the HDTV satellite receiver by Dream Multimedia, maker of the popular Dreamboxes, created quite some anticipation among enthusiasts.

Dreams sometimes can take a long time to come true as the receivers are only just becoming
available now ahead of ANGA 2008, and many anxious customers had doubting it would ever make it to market.

However, Dream has made it and is now presenting two new HD receivers – the DM800 HD PVR and DM8000 HD PVR DVD – at the show.

These Dreamboxes, like all Dreamboxes, run on the Linux operating system, which makes them flexible and upgradable, and features modular exchangeable tuners, OLE displays and USB interfaces, as well as an SATA interface for commercially available hard drives and a
DVI output. In addition, the 8000 model comes equipped with four CI slots, a second DVB S2 tuner and two sockets for additional tuners. It can also be upgraded retrospectively by fitting a
DVD player or recorder.

The new slimline DM100 is the first Dreambox to feature its own operating system instead of the linux OS. “For only €150, the DM100 offers much more than a conventional entry-level receiver,
with features such as Picture in Picture (PiP), Picture in Graphic (PiG) and DiSEqC 1.3 and an acoustic signal indicating the optimum positioning of the antenna”, says Dream. So it should, as €150 is
two to three times the price of an entry-level box.

Dream will also be introducing two new compact models known as the DM500+ and the DM600 PVR, with the latter coming both in a DVB-S and in a DVB-C version.

The DM7020si and the DM7025+ dual-tuner model will be presented featuring a new OLE display. The DM 7025+ features a plug & play configuration for digital satellite, DVB-T or cable reception.
