Shifting TV to edge of Orbit

May 23, 2008 06.12 Europe/London By Donald Koeleman

ANGA Cable Preview. Edgeware, hall 10.2, stand J54/E19

Edgeware, the Swedish manufacturer of video servers specifically designed for efficient time shifting of live TV, will be demonstrating its Orbit 2x server.

The server is integrated into the time-shift TV and nPVR applications of system integrators Eventis and Teleste.

The Orbit 2x distributed video server combines solid-state flash memory and hardware accelerated streaming. It offers on-demand TV features such as native support for a wide range of on-demand TV services including time-shift TV, re-start TV, pause live TV, historic EPG and network PVR.

The Orbit features sub second latency from live TV ingest to playout of individual streams and has a playout capacity of 20GB per second and 16,000 streams per server. Can take in up to 320 channels and 1.2GB of total bandwidth per server, allowing all types of on-demand tricks on a single copy of the content.
