The Belgian football association Profliga has postponed its decision to award its broadcast rights until Friday. The joint offer from Belgacom TV for the live rights and that of public channels VRT and RTBF for the highlights amounted to €44.7 million per season, well below the €50 million the league was hoping for.
The two public broadcasters bid €8 million for the highlights on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The remainder was offered by Belgacom, who currently also holds the exclusive rights. A bid by Walloon pay TV operator Be.tv was not accepted.
The commercial broadcasters from both Flanders and Wallonia showed little interest, so it appears that the public channels were the only bidders. Telenet and Interkabel did not take part in the bidding.
