The Polish parliament (Sejm) is considering launching its own TV channel.
Local reports say this follows last week’s decision by TVP to cease its coverage of proceedings in the Sejm as a protest over changes to existing media legislation that will impact negatively on the public broadcaster’s revenues.
The Sejm will have to apply to the National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT) for a licence and may prefer its planned channel to be distributed by cable rather than satellite due to high transmitter rental costs.
