RTP says that its agreement with Portugal Telecom will enable the public broadcaster to reduce the distribution costs for its DTT signals by some 60%.
Speaking during a Parliamentary hearing, RTP president Guilherme Costa said that during the simulcast period, between 2009 and 2012, transmission costs will be the same as today, but did not provide any figures. However, he guaranteed that the figure will be reduced by 60% when RTP (as well as other channels) broadcast in digital only, following digital switchover in 2012.
