Italy’s leading commercial broadcaster Mediaset is planning to team up with French-Tunisian filmmaker and businessman, Tarak Ben Ammar, for the launch of a TV operation in the Middle East.
According to Italian business daily Il Sole 24 Ore, Mediaset and Quinta Communication (owned by Ben Ammar) are studying the possibility of the acquisition of a satellite TV channel in the Middle East. The likely target seems to be a news and information outlet and the negotiations underway are not for the acquisition of a controlling package, but rather a minority stake.
The paper says that the new venture will be officially unveiled during the Cannes Festival, on May 21.
