The new Czech news and current affairs channel Z1 is expected to make its debut on June 1.
Speaking to the local press, its general director Martin Mrnka said it would initially reach over 30% of the population, being available in the capital, Prague, and cities of Brno, Ostrava and Plzen.
The channel, which will probably be modelled on such services as CNN, Sky News, N24 and Slovakia’s TA3, will compete directly with the public broadcaster’s CT24.
Z1 will be the first of the digital channels that had licences awarded, withdrawn and then reinstated in ‘compensatory’ mode to make its debut.
