KPN to announce details of DVB-H service

May 15, 2008 07.58 Europe/London By Robert Briel

KPN and Samsung will announce full details of the new DVB-H service in The Netherlands on May 29, set for a launch “before June” (see Broadband TV News passim). The MobielTV service will offer mobile versions of existing channels, as well as dedicated made-for-mobile content.

Agreements are in place with RTL for two channels, the Dutch public broadcasters and the cross media platform DAG, and more are expected to be announced at the press conference.

The operator hopes to profit from the live coverage of both the Euro 2008 football championship and the Beijing Olympics, which will be covered for mobile by the pubic broadcaster NOS.
