Pay-TV homes on the Finnish cablenet Welho increased by almost a third in the first quarter. The halo effect brought about by the compulsory digital switchover of Finland’s cable networks helped pay-TV subscribers climb to 103,000 on March 31, 2008 from 69,000 at the end of December.
The total homes connected grew by 12,000 in the first quarter to 320,000. The 100,000 mark for broadband internet passed 100,000 in January and now stands at 101,000. The same figure was reached in pay-TV a month later.
Six new channels including German pubcaster ZDF and the Sailing Channel, were added to the Welho line-up earlier this year following last autumn’s revamp of its packages.
