Liberty Global, Boxer and Eircom have all made bids for Ireland’s national digital terrestrial television multiplex contracts, according to data released by the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland. Each of the bidders has put in applications for all three available multiplexes.
Swedish platform Boxer continues its foray overseas. The company recently won the licence to operate Denmark’s pay-TV and has now partnered with Communicorp, led by Irish entrepreneur Dennis O’Brien, and the operator of a number of radio stations and ISPs.
The OneVision Consortium, backed by commercial station TV3 and telco Eircom, is looking to offer a package of six free-to-air channels.
Finally Easy TV is supported by public broadcaster RTE and Liberty Global. RTE already has a gifted multiplex that will be used to relay the existing national TV and radio networks.
