CABLE CONGRESS 2008 – MADRID. From one of the best-designed stages ever to host a Cable Congress, president Manuel Cubero welcomed delegates to Madrid with the message that total revenues within the European cable sector were showing two-digit growth. Despite heavy competition 3 million cable subscribers had been added and the number of digital subscribers grew by 40%.
Cubero said over the top services were the best advertisement for cable’s infrastructure and that these new services were driving growth.
Eugenio Galdón, president of host operator ONO, said the companies represented by the cable congress remained the driving force behind the development of the information society.
“Our DNA hard wired with a sense of independence and a competitive spirit,” he said. “Most of us cannot fail to be surprised to hear the old monopolies asking for a change in regulation to what they call Next Generation Networks. We all know they already exist on our networks and our customers will soon see what the future holds for them.” Galdón illustrated this with the promise of broadband internet at speeds of 100 Mbp/s, HDTV services, voice and mobile.
