The Dutch public broadcasters confirmed they will cut down the number of digital thematic channels. At the moment, they distribute not less than 17 channels via cable, five of which are also broadcast via DTH.
Of the 17 channels, about 10 will survive. The fact that the public broadcasters launched so many channels was criticised by cable operators, who were forced to take all 17 or none, as well as by commercial broadcasters, who saw their entry into the market blocked by such a large number of new channels.
