Digital subscriber growth and demand for triple play services grew revenues at Unitymedia by 19% in 2007 to €760 million. The German cablenet serving North Rhine Westphalia and Hessen reported a 14% increase in adjusted EBITDA at €333 million.
“2007 was undoubtedly one of the best years we’ve ever had,” Unitymedia CEO Parm Sandhu told Broadband TV News. “At the end of the first quarter our internet subscribers had gone up two and a half times compared to the prior year, our telephony subscribers had gone up three times and our digital pay subscribers had gone up by 20%.”
The drivers for digital growth have been the Jetzt Digital campaign that commenced last autumn and the triple pay bundle Unity3play.
170,000 digital TV subscribers had been added as of December 31, 2007, a trend that has continued into the first quarter, helped by pricing that is below the analogue charges. The number of subscribers receiving digital services grew from 9% to 17% at the end of 2007.
Unitymedia also released operational data for the first quarter of 2008, showing a 17.3% rise in digital subscribers from 789,000 to 925,000. Broadband internet continued to move forward with an increase from 199,000 to 244,000 putting Unitymedia second only to Deutsche Telekom in its subscriber area. Telephony subscribers rose from 175,000 to 222,000.
