The BBC is to rebrand its domestic and international news outlets as part of a new identity created by brand specialists Lambie Nairn. Starting April 21, BBC News 24 will become plain BBC News, though referred to as the BBC News Channel, while BBC World is renamed BBC World News, adopting the brand that has been used in the United States since its launch there last September.
The 24-hour BBC News Channel will move into the studios also used by BBC One’s flagship bulletins while BBC World News will up sticks to the studio currently used by the domestic rolling-news channel.
The reputed £500,000 rebrand will retain the red theme currently seen on air, adding more white, and ‘Saturn’ style spheres that will swirl around the Earth. If anything the new look has shades of the earlier Lambie Nairn rebrand for the Dutch public broadcaster NOS.
