US video rental outlet Blockbuster is set to take on Apple TV with its own proprietary web TV set-top box, according to a report in the Hollywood Reporter. The plan is to introduce a box, which will allow people to stream on-demand movies and other programming directly from the web to their TV set.
The new box will compete heads on with similra over-the-top TV services such as Apple and the iTunes video store, the TiVo Unboxed service from Amazon.com, the proposed Netflix/LG offering and others.
