MIPTV – CANNES. The six new movie and TV series channels from Orange TV will be exclusive to Orange customers in France, said France Telecom CEO Didier Lombard during the Q&A session following his keynote speech ‘Inventing a New Media TV Experience’.
Media companies and telecom operators are nowadays perfect partners, he said, because companies such as Orange can offer “perfect ubiquity of services across the screen, the PC, TV and mobile.”
By signing the exclusive contract with Warner Bros and HBO, Orange TV also broke the premium TV “monopoly” of Canal+, “You more or less can say that,” he said.
Didier also confirmed plans to roll out an Orange TV service in the UK before the end of the year. The planned DTH offer from Orange in France, Spain and Poland will only be available as part of a full triple play offer. “All customers will have the same interface and functionalities,” he said.
