MIPTV – CANNES. On show in Cannes this week is a new development of the Korean mobile TV standard DMB, namely a PVR functionality. Viewers can record a programme by accessing the EPG and the system will automatically record it on a memory card in the mobile receiver.
The Korean Broadcasting and Communications Commission said the two versions of DMB are a huge success in the country, with 9.1 million T-DMB sets in use (terrestrial) and 1.27 million S-DMB (satellite) as of January this year. Of the T-DMB receivers, 43.7% are mobile phones, 41.9% navigation devices, 8.8% PMPs and PDPs, 4.8% USB stick receivers and 0.8% laptops (built-in).
