MIPTV – CANNES. Just at the time as online video portal Joost is contemplating a browser player, online video search aggregator Blinkx is launching a dedicated online player using P2P technology. Called BBTV, Blinkx Broadband TV, it will bring video to the desktop in a closed environment using Windows DRM. For the moment the player is only available for PC users, there is no Mac version.
Started as a video search engine for professionally produced content, Blinkx now has contracts with 253 content partners and offers some 18 million hours of video.
Blinkx also launched Blinx Beat, a portal for short form online video clips. With Blinkx Ad Hoc the company claims to offer the first service to bring contextual ads to online video content with an interface to all major online advertising platforms.
