Poland will open a tender for mobile TV licences in the middle of May, according to the country’s Office of Electronic Communications (UKE).
Local reports say the regulator has earmarked 38 channels in the 470-790 MHz frequency range that will be used for DVB-H in 31 Polish towns and cities. The cost of lodging an application will be half of the PLN912,000 (€261,110) annual fee that will eventually be charged for each channel.
The four Polish mobile companies Centertel, Polkomtel, PTC and P4 have already indicated that they may work together in launching a DVB-H service, the cost of which they estimated would be €100-200 million.
