When the news broke that German cable operator Kabel Deutschland KDG intends to back the ‘open cable’ standard CI-Plus and Unitymedia looked likely to play along, all eyes were on KabelBW. The operator is in the process of switching its CA system to NDS VideoGuard, which does not support CI systems for reasons of security.
However, in an interview with the German Digital Fernsehen publication, a spokesperson said they are, together with NDS, looking into the matter. In principle, KabelBW will support such a development, but issues such as copyright protection and the protection of minors should be fully supported.
