Patent licensing company Sisvel has announced the establishment of a joint licensing programme for patents essential to the DVB-H mobile TV technology.
In a statement, the Italian-based organisation said that talks between France Telecom, LG Electronics, Nokia, Samsung Electronics, TB Invent, and TDF were making significant progress and agreement had already been reached on a number of points including royalty conditions for the licensing of essential patents.
Fees of less than €0.70 per unit will be payable on shipments of less than one million per year with a sliding scale that decreases the fee as shipments increase. There are also discounts of up to 60% available for early adopters.
The DVB organisation will be keen to avoid the disagreement that dogged the licensing process of the MHP interactive technology.
Licensing of essential patents is expected to commence shortly and a final agreement expected before the summer.
