Static has revealed a PlayJam-branded DTT set-top that it intends to retail for £20. The receiver will be capable of receiving the 40 or so Freeview channels available on the UK DTT network, but also includes the Trove technology licensed from sister company Electra Entertainment, allowing for a seven-day TV listings guide news, DVDs, puzzles, gossip, reviews, weather and travel information. Electra says that Trove uses just 1% of the bandwidth required by other middlewares.
The Trove middleware is available on a free licence to other manufacturers with the intention of including it on a number of receivers and personal video recorders.
