German viewers are embracing DTT, according to the Deutsche TV-Platform, with almost 8 million DTT sets now in homes. Last year, 3 million DTT receivers were sold, and this year the amount should double to 6 million.
Research by GfK shows that since the introduction of DTT in November 2002 in the Berlin-Brandenburg area, some 7.8 million sets have been sold. Three million of these were set-top boxes, followed by 1.8 million flat screen sets with an integrated DTT tuner.
There are some 2.2 million portable receivers in the market, which include DVD players with DTT tuner, USB sticks, DTT PC cards, receivers built into car systems and other portable devices.
Integrated TVs are now overtaking the sales of STBs, with 1.2 million flat screen DTT sets sold last year, compared to 900,000 DTT tuners.
