DVB WORLD 2008, BUDAPEST: Viviane Reding, EU Commissioner for Info Society and Media, has said that this year represents an opportunity for mobile TV in Europe that must not be allowed to slip away. She has also called for improved dialogue between the EU and other countries, adding that she will produce a communication on the international dimension of the Union’s policies this June. Listing what still needs to be done in the implementation of broadcasting strategy, she said that the time has come to finalise agreements over licensing; DRM systems for mobile use/open technologies should be promoted; and a light touch regulatory regime should be implemented for mobile TV in the next few months. However, it is currently “not the right time to talk about must carry regulations for mobile.”
