IPTV WORLD FORUM – LONDON: On Demand Group, the content acquisition and platform management service, has signalled its intention to enter the paid for gaming market.
“It’s the number one global TV revenue generator after subscription and betting,” Tony Kelly, CEO, On Demand Group told delegates. He said gaming services were typically counted as being in the top 20 to 40 channels. The target audience would veer towards female and the type of people who aren’t interested in devices such as the X-box, but still had an enthusiasm for games. On Demand’s service will be offered under the Playzine brand.
Kelly pointed out that games rarely featured in marketing materials, which he believed was to the operator’s cost. “Marketing in IPTV is backward and particularly so in games on demand,” he said.
The popularity of gaming is demonstrated by Virgin Media, whose three million subscribers typically make half a million transactions per month.
