Hulu, the online video joint venture between NBC Universal and News Corp, will officially launch today, ending 18 weeks of an invitation-only beta test. In addition to content from NBC, Universal and Fox, the company has announced new content partnerships with Warner Bros. Television Group, Lionsgate, and sports leagues NBA, NHL and NCAA.
The site offers high-quality, advertising-supported streaming of both feature-length films and TV show episodes, both on a destination site and on a branded player through distribution partners AOL, MSN, Yahoo, MySpace and Comcast’s Fancast service. For the moment it is only available in the United States.
Some of the content available for streaming on Hulu at launch will include movies such as Requiem for a Dream and The Usual Suspects, and TV shows including House, Studio 60 and Saturday Night Live.
