IPTV WORLD FORUM – LONDON. Irdeto today announced the successful upgrade of its existing conditional access system at cable company Telia Stofa to include support for the company’s hybrid ‘Zaptor’ service, which delivers live radio and TV and advanced interactive services to more than 20,000 cable subscribers in Denmark.
Telia Stofa is Denmark’s second largest supplier of cable TV and broadband Internet services, connecting approximately 600,000 homes across the country. In 2008, to meet subscriber demand for additional programming options and interactive services, the company launched a project to add a variety of unique new subscriber services under the ‘Zaptor’ brand name. These include time-shift TV, VoD, PVR and network PVR services.
Irdeto was already Telia Stofa’s conditional access provider prior to the Zaptor implementation, protecting content distributed via their DVB-C cable network. Telia Stofa then engaged Irdeto to help them reach new customers via managed IP networks, while still maintaining a unified head-end and set-top box architecture.
“The flexibility and scalability of the Irdeto CA system allowed Telia Stofa to add the secure distribution of Zaptor services over our IP network without extensive and costly upgrades,” said Kaj Skov, CTO for Telia Stofa, in a prepared statement. “Irdeto has an outstanding security record and continually proves itself as a valuable technology partner.”
Telia Stofa is already planning further development of new services over its DVB over IP network. These will include converged PC and TV services.
