According to data produced by the regulatory body Anacom, there were eight companies offering cable modem and 14 ADSL Internet access in Portugal at the end of 2007. All told, there were around 1.73 million fixed line Internet users, with the vast majority (1.63 million) being broadband. Grupo PT accounted for 68.5% of the fixed broadband market, and alternative providers, including the MSO Cabovisão, the remainder.
